Traffic film is the grey-brown skin of diesel soot, salt spray and oily road grime that builds up on lower panels through a winter, and car shampoo will not touch it. Elements Xpert TFR X is a concentrated traffic film remover — a blend of alkaline detergents, surfactants and sequestrants that releases traffic film, oil and grease chemically, so it leaves in the rinse water instead of off the end of a brush.

Why it works

  • Concentrated alkaline detergent blend that lifts traffic film, oil and grease without heavy scrubbing
  • Sequestrants hold hard-water minerals in solution, so it keeps working in hard water areas
  • Dilutes up to 33:1 for brush work — a 5L drum makes roughly 165 litres of solution
  • Drawn neat through pressure wash equipment at 2–3%, set by how dirty the vehicle is
  • Runs through hot or cold pressure wash equipment, or premixed for manual application
  • 5L is the size for a busy week without committing to a 20L drum

When to use it

From October onwards, on anything doing motorway or country-road miles: vans, tippers, trailers, horseboxes and the bottom third of any car that has been on gritted roads. Run it as the pre-wash step so salt and grit are off the vehicle before a mitt goes anywhere near the paint.

Straight from us

Buy the strength you need rather than the strongest thing on the shelf. TFR X at 2% clears an ordinary winter's road film off a van, and if you are routinely having to go past 3% the answer is TFR XX, which dilutes three times further, not more of this. Apply bottom-up, keep it off hot panels and rinse before it dries.

What it won't do

It is not a snow foam. TFR X is a strong alkaline cleaner and it will shorten the life of a wax or sealant, so protected paint wants Snow Blast instead. It also carries no rinse aid — if you want the rinse water to sheet off and dry without streaking across a fleet, that is TFR CX.

Frequently asked questions

What dilution should I use for TFR X?
Through pressure wash equipment, draw TFR X neat and set the machine between 2% and 3% depending on how heavily soiled the vehicle is. For brush application or a premixed machine, Elements Xpert specify up to 33:1 with water.

How far does a 5L drum go?
At the maximum 33:1 dilution, 5L of TFR X makes roughly 165 litres of ready-to-use solution.

Will TFR X strip wax or a ceramic coating?
It can. TFR X is a strong alkaline traffic film remover intended for winter and commercial cleaning, so expect it to shorten the life of a wax or sealant on paintwork. Use a pH-neutral snow foam on protected paint.

What is the difference between TFR X, TFR XX and TFR CX?
TFR X is the standard concentrate at up to 33:1. TFR XX is super concentrated at up to 100:1, for heavier work and a lower cost per wash. TFR CX carries a built-in rinse aid so vehicles dry without streaking.
