Traffic film is the grey-brown layer of diesel soot, road salt and oily spray that builds up on lower panels over a winter and will not shift with shampoo alone. Elements Xpert TFR CX is a commercial traffic film remover concentrate that strips it in one pass, and it carries a rinse aid in the blend, so the rinse water sheets off and the vehicle dries without the streaking a plain TFR leaves behind. It is supplied in a 20L drum for people washing vehicles all day rather than once a week.

Why it works

  • Alkaline detergent blend that lifts traffic film, oil, grease and general road soiling in one pass
  • Sequestrants hold hard-water minerals in solution, so it keeps performing in hard water areas
  • Built-in rinse aid breaks the surface tension of the rinse water for faster drying and a streak-free finish
  • Dilutes up to 66:1 — a 20L drum makes roughly 1,340 litres of ready-to-use solution
  • Runs through hot or cold pressure wash equipment, or premixed for brush application
  • Does the work chemically, so heavy agitation is not needed to lift the film

When to use it

Winter, mainly, and anything doing motorway miles: vans, tippers, horseboxes, trailers, plant and the lower half of any car that has been on gritted roads. Run it as the pre-wash step so salt and grit are off the vehicle before a mitt ever touches paint. It is also the answer to a yard full of vehicles on a Friday afternoon, where a 1L trigger bottle is not going to get you home.

Straight from us

Start weaker than you think. 1% through the lance clears an ordinary winter's road film, and jumping straight to 3% on a lightly soiled van just costs you money for no extra clean. Apply it bottom-up, keep it off hot panels and out of direct sun, and rinse before it dries — the rinse aid only earns its keep if there is water on the panel to sheet off.

What it won't do

It is not a snow foam. TFR CX is a strong alkaline cleaner built for volume work, so it will shorten the life of a wax or sealant and it is not the product for a coated show car — use Snow Blast for protected paint. It also will not remove bonded contamination: tar needs Tar & Glue Remover and embedded brake dust needs Iron Fall Reactive.

Frequently asked questions

What dilution should I use for TFR CX?
For pressure wash equipment, draw TFR CX neat and set the machine between 1% and 3% depending on how heavily soiled the vehicle is. For premixed or brush application, Elements Xpert specify up to 66:1 with water.

Will TFR CX strip wax or a ceramic coating?
It can, yes. TFR CX is a strong alkaline traffic film remover intended for commercial and winter cleaning, so expect it to shorten the life of a wax or sealant on paintwork. Use a pH-neutral snow foam on protected paint instead.

Can I use TFR CX through a foam lance?
Yes. Elements Xpert recommend applying it as a foam rather than a pre-spray, through hot or cold pressure wash equipment.

How far does a 20L drum go?
At the maximum 66:1 dilution a 20L drum of TFR CX makes roughly 1,340 litres of ready-to-use solution. Through a pressure washer it works out at around 670 litres at 3% and 2,000 litres at 1%.
