The Mk4 Golf's tailgate stops dead at the top of the rear window, and from behind the car looks taller and more upright than it is. A roof spoiler carries the roofline back over the glass and finishes the rear end — it is the most common rear styling change made to a Mk4, and the one that dates it least.
About the rear roof spoiler
A one-piece spoiler that runs along the top edge of the tailgate, above the rear window, following the curve of the Mk4 roof rather than standing up off it. On a standard car it reads as an OEM+ finish; on a lowered one it ties in with a front splitter and side skirts as part of a full kit.
It can go on as it comes or be painted to match the car first. It is fixed with self-tapping screws, so it sits tight to the tailgate and stays there.

Fitting it
If you are colour-matching it, paint it before it goes anywhere near the car. Clean the top of the tailgate, then offer the spoiler up with the tailgate shut and check it sits central and even along the glass. Mark the screw positions and pilot-drill. Treat every hole with touch-up paint or a rust inhibitor before the screws go in — the Mk4 tailgate is steel, and a bare hole will rust. Screw it down from the centre outwards.
Delivery, fitting and returns
Delivery is £20 to any UK or Ireland address, on every body kit part. Or have it fitted at Blade Performance in Portadown for an extra £20 — supplied and fitted the same day. Check the spoiler against the car before you drill or paint it, and let us know about any transit damage within 48 hours of delivery.
What it won't do
It does not add downforce at road speeds. This is a styling part and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
It will not fit the Mk4 estate or the Bora — the tailgate and boot lid are different shapes.
It will not hide a rusty or dented tailgate edge. Sort the panel first; the spoiler sits on top of it, not over it.

Will the Golf Mk4 rear spoiler fit a Bora?
No. The Bora is a saloon with a boot lid, not a tailgate. This spoiler is for the Golf Mk4 hatchback only.
Do I have to drill the tailgate to fit a Mk4 Golf roof spoiler?
Yes — it is screw-fixed. Pilot-drill, treat each hole against rust, then screw it down.
Does it need painting?
No, but it can be. If you want it in body colour, paint it before fitting.
