Tar & Glue Remover Gel

Tar spatter, road grease and the glue left behind by a badge or a dealer sticker all need a solvent, and a thin one runs off the panel before it has done anything. SWAG's Tar & Glue Remover is gelled specifically so it stays where you put it — on sills, arches and vertical panels — long enough to soften the deposit. It smells of banana gum, which is a considerable improvement on the alternative.

Why it works

  • Removes tar, asphalt spatter, road grease and adhesive residue
  • Gel consistency clings to vertical panels and sills
  • Works on bodywork, wheels and glass
  • The decontamination step before claying, polishing or coating
  • Banana gum scent instead of raw solvent
  • Ready to use

When to use it

Before claying, and before any polish or coating work. Also spot-wise whenever you find tar on the lower quarter of the car — which after a motorway trip in summer is most of the time.

Straight from us

This and the Bloody Wheel Cleaner Gel do opposite halves of the same job. That one dissolves ferrous particles and bleeds purple; this one dissolves petroleum-based deposits and adhesive. A full decontamination uses both, in that order, and then a clay bar for whatever is left. Skip this step and you polish tar into your paint.

What it won't do

It will not remove bonded iron or brake dust — different chemistry entirely. SWAG publish no list of surfaces to avoid, but as our own advice: solvents and fresh paint, PPF edges, vinyl wrap and perished rubber are a bad combination. Test somewhere hidden first.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I leave it on?
Up to 10 minutes, and do not let it dry on the paint.

Do I need to wash the car afterwards?
Yes. SWAG's instructions say to rinse, then wash with a shampoo or APC to remove the solvent residue.

Is it safe on a wrapped car?
SWAG publish no restriction either way, so we will not claim one. We would not use a solvent tar remover on vinyl wrap without testing a hidden area first.
