Night Drift Blast Air Freshener

A car can be spotless and still smell of last week's dog walk. Fabric holds odour long after the source has gone — seats, headlining, carpet and boot lining all take it in, and a freshener hanging off the mirror only covers the top of it. Night Drift Blast is a high-pressure 500ml aerosol that can be emptied into a closed car in one go, so the fragrance and the odour-eliminating agents reach the fabric rather than sitting in the air above it.

When to use it

Handover day on a valet, and after any car that has carried dogs, smoke, gym kit or takeaway. On a trade-in before it goes on the forecourt. Do the vents at the same time. Set the climate control to recirculate with the blower running for a minute before you discharge the can, and the fragrance goes through the ventilation system instead of settling on the seats — that is the difference between a car that smells fresh for a fortnight and one that smells fresh for two days. Then air it out properly before anyone gets back in.

What it won't do

It will not fix a damp smell. Water in a footwell, a blocked scuttle drain or mould under a mat comes straight back through, and an odour bomb over the top of it only buys a few days — find the leak and dry the car out first. It is also not a fabric cleaner: heavy soiling needs Fabric Wash before you freshen anything.
