Black carpet mats go grey long before they wear out. Sun through the glass, grit off boots and years of hoovering pull the colour out of the pile, and no amount of shampooing brings it back — the dye has gone, not the dirt. Elements Xpert Black Dye is a fast-drying, high-opacity solvent-based fabric dye in an aerosol that puts the black back into mats, carpet and interior fabric in a single pass.

Why it works

  • High-opacity solvent stain, so it covers grey and patchy areas rather than tinting them
  • Aerosol delivery lays an even coat across a whole mat in seconds, with no brush marks
  • Fast drying, so a set of mats can be done and back in the car the same day
  • Works on carpet mats, boot liners, parcel shelves and interior fabric trim
  • Can be sprayed into the cap and brushed into piping, edges and tight corners
  • 500ml can — enough for a full set of mats on most cars

When to use it

On a car going up for sale, where tired grey mats undo an otherwise spotless interior. On a valet where the customer has asked for the mats to look new rather than just clean. Always shampoo, extract and fully dry the fabric first — dye goes over clean fibre, never over dirt.

Straight from us

Mask more than you think you need to. Overspray from an aerosol travels further than it looks, and black dye on a door sill or a seat base is a far bigger job than the mats ever were. Two light coats beat one heavy one — heavy coats dry stiff and are the ones that transfer onto shoes.

What it won't do

It will not clean. Dye laid over ground-in dirt seals the dirt in and dries patchy, so shampoo the mats with Fabric Wash and dry them completely first. It is also black only — it will not return a grey, beige or coloured carpet to its original shade.

Frequently asked questions

Will Elements Xpert Black Dye rub off on my shoes?
Not once it is fully dry and applied in light coats. Transfer is caused by over-application, so build the colour up in two thin passes and let the mats dry fully in a ventilated space before they go back in the car.

Can I use it on car seats?
Black Dye is intended for carpet mats and interior fabric. Test a hidden area first, and keep it off leather, Alcantara and any surface that sits against skin or clothing.

What do I do if I spray too much?
Wipe the excess off immediately with white spirit, before it dries. Once the dye has cured it is not coming off.

How far does a 500ml can go?
A 500ml can covers a full set of car mats on most vehicles, applied as two light coats. Boot liners and van floors will use noticeably more.

Directions

1. Shampoo, extract and fully dry the fabric first — dye must go onto clean, dry fibre.
2. Mask any area you want to protect, allowing for overspray.
3. Shake the can thoroughly.
4. Hold the can 15–20cm from the surface and apply in light, even strokes.
5. For piping, edges and tight areas, spray into the cap and apply with a brush or sponge.
6. Build the colour up in two light coats rather than one heavy one.
7. Leave to dry fully in a well-ventilated space, away from moisture and contact.
8. Remove any over-application immediately with white spirit, before it dries.
