When to use it

The dirty jobs and the general wipe-downs. Engine bays, door shuts, sills, arch liners, tyre dressing overspray, interior plastics, cup holders and the first pass on glass. Anywhere a cloth is likely to pick up grit, product or tar and you would rather not risk a good towel.

Care

Machine wash at 40°C with a microfibre-safe detergent. No fabric softener and no hot tumble drying. Wash wheel and engine bay cloths separately from anything that goes near paint, and once a cloth has had tar remover or solvent on it, keep it on the dirty jobs for good.

Pick a colour for each job the day you open the box and stick to it — say blue for glass, yellow for interior, red for wheels. It costs nothing and it is the single biggest thing that stops brake dust ending up on a dashboard or a windscreen.

What it won't do

These are not finishing cloths. At 250 GSM with a bordered edge they are not what you want for the final buff of wax, sealant or ceramic on paint — use an edgeless plush cloth such as the DUAL X 400 for that. They are also not drying towels; they will not hold enough water for a whole car.

Yes for wiping down a clean panel, but they are a general-purpose 250 GSM cloth with a bordered edge, so keep them for interiors, wheels, door shuts and glass and use an edgeless plush cloth for buffing wax or ceramic on paintwork.

What colours are in the pack?
A mix of colours that varies by batch — the photo shows a typical selection. The colour has no bearing on the cloth; it is there so you can colour-code by job.

How do I wash them?
Machine wash at 40°C with no fabric softener, then air dry or tumble on low. Softener and high heat glaze the fibres and stop them absorbing.

What size are they?
30 x 40cm, so slightly smaller than a standard 40 x 40cm detailing cloth. That makes them easier to work in door shuts and tight interior spaces.
