Grey is the workhorse — the cloth you burn through on general panel wipes, compound dust and polish residue, and everything else that does not justify pulling a dedicated cloth out of the drawer. Compound and polish oils turn a light cloth grubby inside one detail. On grey they simply do not show.

How to use it

Remove compound residue with light pressure and a folded face, turning to fresh cloth every panel. A loaded cloth stops removing residue and starts smearing it, which is what people mistake for a bad compound.

Care

Machine wash at 40°C with a microfibre-safe detergent, no fabric softener. Compound cloths benefit from a rinse under a tap before they go in the machine — it stops abrasive dust setting into the pile.

This is the one to buy in quantity. Most people run out of clean cloths halfway through a polish and start reusing loaded ones, which undoes the work.

Directions

1. Wash new cloths before first use to remove manufacturing residue and lift the pile.
2. Colour-code by job - keep one colour for paint, another for glass, another for wheels and interiors.
3. Use dry for buffing, or lightly damp for cleaning, and fold into quarters so you have eight clean faces to work through.
4. Turn to a fresh face as soon as one loads up with dirt.
5. Never reuse a cloth that has been dropped on the ground until it has been washed.

Machine wash at 30-40C with microfibre detergent. No fabric softener, no bleach, and do not wash with cotton items. Air dry or tumble dry on low.
