Polish oils, old wax and fingerprints sit between the product and the paint, and they are the reason a coating that should last fails early. Bonnychem IPA is isopropyl alcohol for panel wipe and surface prep, in a 5L drum for anyone who goes through the stuff properly.

When to use it
After machine polishing and before any coating, sealant or wax goes on. Wipe each panel down, check the finish under a light, then protect. It is also the step before fitting anything stuck on with tape, from a badge to a body kit lip.

Decant it into a labelled trigger bottle and keep the drum shut, because IPA evaporates the moment it is left open. Use a fresh, clean microfibre for the wipe-down so you are lifting oil off the paint rather than spreading it about.
What it won't do
It is a prep product, not a cleaner for dirt. Wash and decontaminate the car first; IPA on a gritty panel just moves the grit around. It also strips wax and sealant, so keep it off any paint you have already protected.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to dilute IPA for panel wipe?
Check the Bonnychem label for the strength in the drum. Many detailers mix IPA with distilled water for a gentler wipe on fresh or soft paint, so test on a small area first.
Is IPA safe on plastic trim and rubber?
A quick wipe is generally fine on hard trim, but repeated use can dry out unprotected plastics and rubber. Wipe it off rather than letting it sit.
Will IPA remove my ceramic coating?
IPA will not remove a cured ceramic coating, but it will strip wax and most spray sealants, so only use it where you intend to reapply protection.
