Most uneven wax and dressing jobs come down to the pad moving in your hand. The moment you tilt to reach the edge of a panel or into a wheel arch, a loose applicator slides, you press harder on one side, and the product goes down thicker where you gripped it. The HELIO is a 5-inch round microfibre applicator with a strap across the back, so the pad stays against your palm and the pressure stays even.

When to use it

Waxes, paint sealants, glazes and spray protection on bodywork, and trim or tyre dressings where you want a controlled amount rather than a spray. The strap earns its keep on vertical panels and around wheels, which is exactly where a loose pad ends up on the floor.

Split the pair the day you open the pack. One pad for wax and sealant, one for tyre and trim dressing, and never the other way round — silicone dressing carried onto paint is the quickest route to a patchy wax job. At two in a pack they are cheap enough to keep separate sets for each.

What it won't do

It is an applicator, not a buffing towel — product still has to be levelled and removed with a clean microfibre, and the MICRO X 350 8 pack is what we use for that. It is also not a ceramic coating applicator: coatings need a suede block over foam, not microfibre.

The HELIO is round with a hand strap, which suits curved panels, wheels and tight recesses. The PLURA is a rectangular block, which suits flat panels and straight edges.

Directions

1. Shake the product and apply a small amount to the face of the pad, not to the panel.
2. Slide your hand under the strap so the pad sits flat against your palm.
3. Spread the product in straight, overlapping passes using light pressure.
4. Work one panel at a time so nothing dries before it is levelled.
5. Level and remove the residue with a clean, dry microfibre cloth.
6. Rinse the pad out after use and machine wash without fabric softener.
